You are one lucky guy! It's great to hear no bones were broken!
Sorry to see the beating your equipment took though. Will the 400 power on at all?
I guess you'll watch your footing a little more closely next time. And next time throw the camera onto the roof before you fall! ;-)a
Sorry for your loss and glad we didn't lose you!
+1 on the building shot!

A horrible tragedy would be if you died. The camera being broken stinks, but is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Glad you're OK.

The lens broke how it's supposed to, and can probably be repaired by Canon for about $200-$250. Do you have insurance on your gear?

Looking at the photos I could hear the screams. Landing on the rock path could have easily broken many bones! Thank heaven for the awning or it could have been really ugly!
Yes, take the pain pills and get back to 100% health! Glad we didn't lose a POTN member doing what we all love, taking pictures!
Be safe and heal quickly my friend!

It is god sign to you to buy a 5D + 17-40L now.... Glad you are all right from the fall, better go for a quick check-up though, sometimes you don't really feel some side-effects from it.

Hi Paten,

First of all, glad to hear you survived with minor scrapes. That is the most important thing!

Regarding insurance: it was an accident, so I don't think the insurance can blame you. I would contact the insurance company if I were you. You slipped, which is an accident, hence not your fault, and as a result fell and dropped your camera. I'd suggest to read the fine lines of your insurance policy, and then contact your insurance representative.

Feeling with you; kindest regards, Wim

Glad you're okay. I took a film photography class back in collage. On the very first day the proffessor asked us not to get carried away. The very next day I caught myself doing a high-speed-chase-shoot-out on my way to school.

I'm sure Canon has a cure for your lens.
