i have an Alien Bee AB800, 580EX II, 540EZ, and Sunpak383

shooting a car and model outoors to get a gloomy sky

what should i use to light up the model?

im prolly NOT gonna use any modifiers

should i use the AB800 to light up just the model if she were a couple feet in front of the car and use the other 3 flashes to light up the car?

or should i use the AB to light up majority of the car and use a flash to light up just the model?

as far as modifiers..i have 2 convertible umbrellas, a couple of silver bounce umbrellas, and a 24"x24" softbox that can fit over the bee

outdoors and wind is an issue but i might be able to have someone help hold the light with a modifier on it

No one can answer because the answer is VERY subjective. 100 photographers given the same lights, car and model will shoot it 100 different ways. It really depends on the look you are going for, the car, the model, the background, etc..........

The only thing I would say, is watch where you position the lights as cars are very reflective. If you can, get the lighting for the car sorted in advance of the model turning up.

One option may be to use the powerful AB with either a softbox for the car set a reasonable distance and use the flash in close with a shoot through umbrella for the model.

Let us know how it goes and post a pic or 3.

straight from the camera..just resize
i didnt do a lot of full car shots...

and i wasnt able to use the alien bee cause there was no available power source
basically 3 flashes lighting the car ...and an additional flash with an umbrella on it for the model

what do you think?
ill post more later

Can you post a picture of your setup?

Not an expert, but it looks good to me.
