This is just one more reason why I like to keep a camera, any camera, with me whenever I can. In this case, Marcia and I were in Berlin, and I had put the 5D away as we were just headed out to dinner. Kept the G9, however, and I am glad I did.
As we walked, I saw a bowl of roses. At least a day or two old. I just pointed the camera down on it and shot it as I walked passed. Presented for your critique is both the process and results.
This is the out of camera version. I love the shape of the petals all bunched up in the bowl. The couple of pink ones make a nice point of attention. I like the the fact that the green wall they are sitting on cuts across at an angle - adds a little movement to a very centered composition.

But, as you can see, the colors are a bit flat. I increased the contrast here, got rid of the white whatever, and got rid of the curb edge in the upper right. I really like this version. Marcia and I both decided this will get a frame and a spot on the wall.

But then I got to playing around with different techniques for Sepia conversion, and I thought I would try it on this and I liked this version too.

But, in spite of the lovely texture, it seemed to lack a center of interest. So, for this final version, I laid the sepia version over the processed color version and gently brushed away some of the sepia, revealing just a hint of color in the roses. Here is where I ended up. A very different look than the color version, but, I think, it works well as a mixed sepia/color shot.

So, any thoughts? Favorites? Or none of them do it for you?
