I was wondering, how do you personally watermark or sign your photos? I've seen a lot of people put a frame around it and have their name there. But what works best for you?

And, what IS your watermark? Do you just use your name (ie, John Doe Photography)?

Thank you~ (And feel free to post an example!)

Name in border/frame. That works best for me. Nothing too fancy. ;)

The general idea of a watermark is to prevent "theft" of an image (otherwise it's simply a "signature") so depending on how "saleable" an image is will dictate how large I make the watermark. For the purposes of this discussion I assume we are talking about images hosted on a web-site?

If it's a portrait shoot of individual members of a group, where each person has a head/shoulders shot, for instance, I would put a great big diagonal copyright message through the centre of the photo. Make it semi-transparent, but still big enough and obvious enough to limit image theft.

TJ

It's no good to me if the image is "lifted" from the web page.

I have a logo I recently adopted. It is a tattoo I have had for years and is well known in the biker community I hang with. I only use it on images I post on the web.

On pictures I give away (charity/non-profit work), I have been including a small signature (my actual signature, digitized) in the lower right hand corner.
