First real outing with my new 400mm L IS f/2.8 saw me at a local cricket match for about an hour yesterday, this bad boy is heavy.

All these were shot with 1.4X at either f/4 or f/5.6

These photos are awesome, fantastic expressions, great action freezing - I want one! But I think I would have to settle for the 400mm f5.6, that lens is heavy AND expensive.....

Great stuff, love the cricket.
Shame about the cars parked in the background
You may need to tweak your verticals/horizontals but overall really good work.

Thanks guys, cant do anything about the cars, the horizons are as level as they should be, local grounds have a tendency to have sloping wickets both accross and down the wicket.

Cracking set of shots .Well done.

Oh and nice lens aswell :D

Got a question - When taking photographs of a cricket match, do you have to ask permission to take them ?.

Thanks Alan, i work for a local newspaper so the local clubs are happy to get the much needed exposure so no permission needed, however its always courteous and wise to offer local clubs a few shots for the programme etc, etc.

As for actual permission, i suppose that depends on the League itself, i also supply the local Central Yorkshire League with a few photos for their website, i beleive at county matches you need a county pass.

Gavin might know more than myself as he's been at the Cricket stuff much longer than me.

Very nice work Gary. Looks like that lens is going to be a very handy tool! #6 is my pick of the set, the bowler looks, er, 'determined' ;)

Hey great pics, I do a couple of local leagues one for the last 2 seasons after a season and no probs they have now stopped me due to the under 18's difficulty even though I have permissions from parents and teams. Its a real pain, the other league are great league secretary backs me but even there some grounds are a problem.
