Problem with Camera or Card?

I could not decide on which forum it would be best to ask this question.
I am using a new canon 40D with the latest canon digital photo professional, and every once in a while when I transfer my pics from the card, it ends up looking like this.
Is this a problem with the card, the software or the camera. I have also noticed that most of the times my files in the card are called "100 Canon", but once in a while I get two folders "100 Canon" and "101 Canon". The bad pic came from the card with the two folders. The 100canon folder was empty and the pics were on the 101canon folder.
If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it, bec if its due to the camera, I need to return it.
Thank you

The problem looks to be a card issue but the 100, 101 folder thing is normal. After 9999 pictures are taken, the folder number changes to 101 and the picture numbering starts at 0000 again. The camera will use the highest number picture if the card has one. So, if you have a 101 folder, thats what the camera will use.

The problem with the data being corrupted can be caused by a bad card or a bad camera, it's hard to tell. You might try another card and in the problem persists, odds are it's a camera thing. You can also take a peek down the CF card slot and see if there is any forign material or if there is a bent pin.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Thanx John.
I think then its a camera issue, bec this is the second card it happened on. It happens rarely, but i dont want it to start happening more often.

It’s either the memory card, or the interface to camera (i.e., the broken pin).
Try to Full Format in the computer (via the card reader) both cards first..

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

How do you do the Full Format in the computer? ( I usually format the cards in the camera)

Stick the card into the card reader and when you connect it to the computer, it’ll get its own drive letter.
Right click on it and choose Format…
Make sure you don’t tick the Quick Format box.
Click Start.

This works for Windows OS’, I don’t know how to do it in Mac.

Tyah, nothing special about Toronto.
If there was no CN Tower, it’d look just like any other North American city of that size.

Try Cape Town or Barcelona for a change.. ;)

What manufacturer made the cards. There is a sticky in the Accessory & Storage forum about counterfeit SanDisk cards from ebay though I am not sure they give any problems. If both of your cards are the same brand you might try one from another company. Hopefully it is not your camera but if you are using a major brand of card it doesn't look good.

Well Toronto wasnt bad, it was like any big city here in US. I really liked Montreal and Quebec, esp the old towns.

The first card it happened with was from ProMax. The second was Lexar.
No problem with my Sandisk cards so far.

Was the Lexar one of the 80x cards? There was a problem with the 80x cards.

Yes,
actually the lexar is the 80x card.
I will start using only my sandisc cards and see if it happens again.
