Sometimes a picture is just sitting there waiting to be taken as it was in this case. I was told that this is the only traffic light in Ketchikan, Alaska. I can see why!

Huh! A red light would have been great!

Just in case anybody is wondering if there is a traffic jam at the light ... I used a 200 mm telephoto so the houses on the hill are a long distance from the light so it is not the end of the road. Thee is a slight turn in the road and then it goes through a tunnel.

Someone probably got killed there when someone turned right, and again when someone turned left. Best solution: No one turn here!

Lol. Looks kinda funny. I'd have to assume that turning either left or right would take you onto a railways track or something?

I agree, the comedy would have been amplified even further by showing the traffic light on red!

Although it appears that in addition to not being able to turn, you can't go straight ahead either because of the houses, the telephoto perspective has compressed the perspective just enough to make it somewhat of a sight gag. I was shooting slightly upwards and the houses are one the side of the mountain. The road actually continues ahead a short distance and then makes a slight turn before entering a tunnel that goes through the mountain.

I like the red light idea as a interpretation that I had not considered. My original thought for using the green light comes from my deviant sense of humor in that I see the green light prompting the question, "Where?", since the sight gag is that it appears that there is no place to go (not even straight ahead) once the light turned green.

Using a zoom flattens the image, so I can't imagine anything thinking that house is actually right in front of the light.

Most people who are not into photography -- and a few who are -- would not know that.:)

I suppose that if I had gotten far enough away to use hyperfocal focusing, it would have really been confusing.;)

Actually I live in the town from the original picture, and we have THREE traffic light just so you know, we are BIG TIME BABY!!!

LOL

That is the only downtown light, and many of the tour guides that give out info are not from here so alot of tourist leave with very poor info, not your fault I know....

Up until recently you used to be able to turn left at that light (right is a one way street), but during the tourist season with all the cruise ships in, they dont let you as thats where the tour busses need to go and they really need the space. But, once Sept. rolls around and the tours are gone those signs come down as do other stop signs and such. LOL We have to learn the traffic rules two times a year here...lol

Well, considering it's a green light, you're good to do whatever it is you aren't allowed to do...

Ketchikan has hit the big time! I am glad to get an authoritative report to straighten the record. And, for what it is worth, we do not have any traffic lights in the town that I live in except where we border another city ... and it is actually their light. I think that it was a college student tour guide doing a summer gig who told us the story about the light, so my wife wanted me to get a shot of it. I really did not even think much about the image until reviewing the images at home and saw what looked humorous because of the framing that makes it appear that there is no place to go. Now I need to update that page on my PBase gallery to show the correct information.

Yep! I have this visual image of a traffic jam with cars permanently stacked up at the light.

Thanks for the comment and welcome to POTN. I think that it is a nice sight gag, but then I am slightly biased.
