Tighten it once and forget it. I didn't plan on removing it, in fact I never did until my 40D hit the edge of a slab of stone (with my 70-200 L IS attached)...I almost cried! So I tried to remove it to send it in (40D) for repair and it wasn't coming off, so after some effort I think I caused some of the gear stripping. DC~
