I got some great seats behind the visitor's dugout but only had my 70-300mm

I know it's tough to get from this position but there is not one full face showing on any player and the one that is (second baseman in rundown) is out of focus. For batters, try and focus more on getting their follow throughs as they come out of the swing and you may get better images (see my most recent thread as well as that by Athletics Photographer for examples of what I mean here). Getting bat on ball or players swinging and missing hardly ever result in decent pics with batters face and expression.

In addition, 1/500 is actually a pretty slow SS to shoot baseball with (eg first image) if you really want to freeze action. While many think baseball is a sloooow game, the stuff that happens in it happens fast and 1/2000 SS or higher are much better to use where you can.

Also crop more and if you can use a lower fstop, do so as it will help blur backgrounds more where you need it.

Cheers!

Chris

I know to do all that stuff, but it's hard to get the good angle from seat in a sell out game. Also the cheap lens doesn't help. The shots once the shade hit the field were at iso 500. It's just tough to get a 70-200mm f/2.8 into the staduim. I need to get to some college games next season so I can try and get some better angles, and maybe at the field level.

red & white seemed to be an issue on these shots...
the white at&t seems to have a red tinge to it in the shadows
and the players' white unis are red-dish (especially Kendrick in rundown pic)

could also be my monitor...
