I have been playing around with photos and attempting to make some HDR photos. I kinda like how this turned out. Might be a little to much for some people. Looking for some advice on whether I took it to far or not.

Overprocessed but it works for me and has its own feel. Nice job.

Well, it's overprocessed but when talking about HDR's over doing it is kind of the purpose too.

I like this image, how do you process your HDR's? I usually fail to create the "HDR look" in my own even when i am after it. I use CS3 HDR merge function, and i am a bit lost with the controls of the process.

I like it a lot,it has a 3D quality .
These over processed HDR's are appealing to me more and more and to think I only found out about HDR's when I joined this forum.

I really like it. Looks like a painting which is what I understand HDR to be about. My guess is its much more colorful than what you would see with the naked eye standing there.

May I ask in what way you over processed this? I have photomatix and PS CS3 and would like to try it. I understand the part about taking the multi photos.

Thanks

No it's not over processed, it's what HDR is supposed to look like, the way I understand it. It's beautiful. I never got Photomatix to do anything as well so I quit using it.

You might want to give Photomatix another shot. It's one of the best out there. Once manipulation of its controls are understood, you can get from the 3D-looking ultra-real photos (like the one in this thread)to the very natural high dynamic range photos.

They don't have to look ultra-real at all. Its all in the processing style. It also has to do with the style of input. Good shots in with an understanding of the processing gives you predictable output.

Way overdone to me, but to each his own. I understand that this is what you were looking for and that is all good, the crooked horizon is what bugs me the most. :) Also, you should have left a bit more foreground in, that curb is cut off just a bit at the bottom of the photo.

Which state's capital is this?

I like it. It really shows the architectural detail. Colors are goofy but that comes with the territory. Good composition.

Do you use the toning mapping in Photomatix?

Actually, the processing is very similar to vintage postcards from the mid-1900s

The foreground and building are ok, but the super noisy clouds and halos take away from the image. If you replaced the sky, eliminated the halos, and blended it yourself in cs3, I think it might look better.

This is the state capital in Des Moines Iowa. I think we have a great looking capital building and it makes for a nice subjet. I used photomatix to get this effect. The only thing I did in photoshop was sharpen it up a bit and crop it a little. I got this effect with tonemapping. You can get this effect by just playing around with the top three sliders. Also ticking the smoothing will change it alot. To get this effect I had the smoothing ticked the second one from the left. I will post the original photo in there so you can see the change in the photo.
