I hope its the Tamron because I have one on order. :D

I chose it because a friend has one and loves it, and it was rated highly on a review site.

No doubt the Tamron has great reviews. These 2 are so close in price, and with the Macro version of the Sigma, I am needing advice.

Very close, optically. The Sigma has better build and macro. The Tammy has 17mm. You'd probably be happy with either.

Tough question considering the owner of each lens will rave about it.

Many reviews always seems to mention the better build in the sigma lens. The Sigma EX macro version is the new kid on the block so perhaps theres a time period until theres more love for this lens.

There is alot of Tamron users that love the IQ of their lens. So if your undecided dont feel bad because either lens seems to have great IQ.

I chose the Sigma since there seems to be more sigmas available locally in my area. The thing I do appreciate is the macro closeups and relatively fast auto focus. When I shoot f2.8 I would say its very useable and if you dont pixel peep its considered very sharp at wide open.

The Sigma is truly a very capable lens that will impress you. I'm still pleasantly suprised everytime I use it.

I love my Sigma and it's the non macro. Very sharp and great build. I've put iff the 17-55 IS because this lens can truly hold its own.

I have the Tamron and love it. The following review swayed me to get the Tamron over the Sigma: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …XR-Di-II-Lens-Review.aspx (external link)

That review compares the non-macro (previous generation) Sigma. The current macro version of the Sigma is optically better.

Spend a little more than both of them and get the Canon 17-55, you'll spend a lot less time worrying whether you made the right choice or not.

You mean the sum of both the Tammy and Sigma (about $900)? Surely you don't mean either individually?
