Great info, but unless a bird brought the acorn way out there away from other trees, doesn't matter how it got to Colorado, it isn't going to walk far from the tree that grew it, not on it's own. ;)

Ummm, you know, I paid all this money for this camera and the damn thing can't even get the horizon straight! :) :)

:D What you need is a ruler taped on to the hot shoe :)

kenyc wrote in post #5960046 (external link)
Anyway, I think it is straight now, I worked from the original full size and adjusted it based on the farm buildings and power poles in the background. That still doesn't mean that it might not "feel" straight.

Hmmm ... please see the attached picture. I took a screen shot of what I see - the red line shows how the horizon is sloping lower to the left. This is what I think should be straight.

What I don't like about the crop is that it feel too crowded now around the tree. :(

I did do a straighten and crop of your org pic and it had more room / space than what your current image shows.

I'm going to go back through these tonight. I think this image was the best of the batch, but I will recheck that may be another that works better.

Thanks Again!

To take nothing away from the image - I think it is fantastic as it is. I keep looking at it and love the colour of the sky and tree.

No problem, I appreciate the input, and good catch on the leveling, I need to be more careful about it, it seems to slip by too often. There are tripods that have levels built in, but clearly I don't have one. :)

I agree that the horizon is sloping, but that is what I was originally saying (before I edited the response) about the first version, I thought it was okay until I pull up the original and zoomed in on the buildings to find them all leaning towards the Jones' :) So that's that I used to level the scene I think the slope is just geography (the Rocky Mountains are to the right side. :) ). But certainly that may give the impression of being non-level which is almost as bad as actually being non-level.

Anyway I will look at it (and it's sibling pics) tonight and see what I come up with. I was concentrating too much on the colors, focus, sharpness etc as I was processing this one and totally missed the slope. :)

Enjoy!

Okay, final update. I went back and reworked the original a bit to gain a little bit of breathing room around the tree. It'll have to do. :)
