i've just been given tickets to the Cleveland Indians game (going with a vendor) - and they are 10 rows off the 3rd base line! i'm not sure that my 28-135 will be long enough - and i dont have any shops local that i can rent lens from - would it be worth it to take my camera or am i going to be really disappointed with the lack of reach

It's only Tuesday, I'll bet Paul Friedman can help you www.lensprotogo.com (external link)

Give him a try, he'll get you something in your hands by Friday, so you can go to the game Saturday with a better lens. Unless you have a bag similar to the digital holster (it's soft and can be worn right over the shoulder and will get you in a MLB stadium - or perhaps your vendor friend can get you in with a bigger lens), I wouldn't go past a 70-200, because it would be chancy to get in with anything bigger.

If you look below, I think there's another post (look for angels in stadium I think), the poster in that thread also used your lens if I am not mistaken.

Dodd camera on E30th rents whatever you need (more or less). I'm sure you could grab a 70-200 in there and be just fine. Have fun at the game, those seats should give you a very nice vantage point. If you're real nice and ask the ushers, they'll let you go down to the rail during warmups and between innings and if you're careful on how you shoot it, you'll never know that the shots taken then aren't game action. From there, get the pitchers, the shortstop, second and first basemen fielding between innings (during the game too but those will be from a different angle in the seats.

Enjoy it and post up a few results. In answer to your question, the 28-135 will be short and as the sun sets west from those seats, you'll find some awkward lighting until the field lights are in full force after dark

POTN to the rescue!!! They only rent from the downtown location I think but they do rent which is cool. If you are ever in the DT area and feel like getting together to meet a fellow POTN'r, drop me a note.

didn't end up renting a lens as i would have had to take it back to cleveland today (30 minutes out of my way) - the 28-135mm didn't do too bad and i got some good shots for being many beverages into the game (indians lost 11-4)

here is a pitch series (5 shots)

Hudson:
These are really too small to be able to view or critique as needed. Maybe post one or two at a bit larger size? Assuming good focus and the like, #2 and #3 are likely the best "action" shots. On the last two you lose the pitcher's face.
Cheers!
Chris

i was definitely shooting too slow (most were 1/250th) - not sure what i was thinking so i'll blame it on the Labats - these are all crop (shot with 28-135)

Fausto Carmona - you can still hear him getting rung up (gave up 6 runs in the 1st)
