Hello, can anyone recommend a great (free) photo organizing software that shows all the regular data PLUS used focal range and lens type? I'm not even sure this is possible, I only got my SLR since two weeks. Thanks alot for your help, Mihai

The disk that should have come with your 40D contains a program called "ZoomBrowser"

In windows xp you can just use the my pictures folders.

Prety easy to keep things orginized if you download here from your camera. I have mine set to download and make a file for each day, so every day has its own file.

If I open a file and click on an image It opens in windows picture and fax viewer. If I hover the mouse over an image it gives me the shot data you were refering to. If I right click on an image select propertys and advanced I can see all the shot data recorded by the camera. (this data is called exif data).

This is proably the simplest way but not neceairly the best since programs like zoom browser (on the disk that came with the camera) do a better job of displaying and giving the shot (exif) data.

I also highly recomend the free image viewer/orginizer/simple-editor, from google called Picasa2. For beginners and those who are not greatly proficent with computers, it is a great place to start. Picasa2 is free easy to use and understand. My grandfather is lost without this picasa program, even though he has several other types of software he seems just to really understand picasa.

EXIFTool will reveal pretty much every bit of metadata stored within your image files, be they raw or jpeg. Download it free from here....
