I can't find any specs for the Digital Concepts 952AF. I found it here http://www.adorama.com/DC952AFCAN.html (external link) however it does not mention if it works with the 40D? I'm interested in knowing more about it's manual controls and how much control you can have over the power output. Does anyone have this unit or maybe use it with a 40D? Now with that said, It'll mostly be used for off camera but I'm interested in it because it offers the ability to use it on canon's. Thank You.... I seem to be having a tough time deciding on a second flash.

If it works on the other cameras listed, it should work on the 40D (caveat: read the review). However, you won't be able to control the flash settings via camera menu like you could with the newer EX Speedlites (580EX II, 430EX II).

One limitation of most aftermarket E-TTL compatible flash units is lack of high speed sync. There are numerous other differences between the various aftermarket brands and EX Speedlites.

The one review on Adorama's site isn't favorable. You get what you pay for.

I found these specs on Amazon
Technical Details

* Five level of power ratio 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8/ and 1/16
* Swivel Bounce Zoom Head, Horizontal angle from 0 to 270, Vertical angle: 0,45,60,75,90
* Digital Power Auto Zoom and manual zoom flash head from 24/28/35/50/70/85 mm
* Built-in reflecting plate and diffuser with Focus bean to assist in low light conditions

Doesn't look bad...but can it work on a 40D?

I'd skip it because there's no mention of Guide Number - which means you have NO idea how powerful (or weak) the flash is.

Your signature says you have a 430EX...are you just looking for another flash for off-camera endeavors? If so, its probably in your best interest to go with a tried & true flash even if you're on a budget.

dpds68... I'm looking into the vivitar but I have a question about it. There is a sensor on the front of it that needs a clear line of sight to the subject, what if I'm gonna be shooting it though an umbrella? Also, does that fit the 40D, incase I would want to mount it? Thanks

If you are shooting through an umbrella, the sensor won't work, but I cannot imagine using ttl functions with an umbrella - too many variables.

Good enough for basic snap shot stuff. Not the best for working with off camera light.

That is good enough. It is about equal to a Canon 420EX or 430EX.
