Wow, those look great, thanks! Can I ask if these were the same background and just different gels?

Different backgrounds - the first was the grey (Washington) with a blue/purple gel, the second is the blue (Florida) background. Same dog! ;) :D

Just curious, how did these work out for you? I'm looking to do something similar, using a strobe with gels to change colors.

Rudi may be a bad influence but he does give great advice. After reading his posts about the Lastolite collapsible backgrounds back in July, I bought the same two he had decided on. They're fantastic. The material is heavy-weight and remarkably wrinkle-resistant. My only gripe is that one of mine is very difficult to collapse. The other is a piece of cake.

Here's one of the collapsibles without a background light:

I sense a common theme... now is it the backgrounds, or the pets? ???

Bad influence -- LOL. I just ordered the Washington/Dakota (gotta love those names!) Lastolite, looking forward to getting it. Unfortunately, no dogs to try it out on, gotta settle for my kids ;) Thanks guys.

Rudi, how are you setting up the backgrounds? Leaning them against a wall or are you using a stand? If so, how are you holding up the backgrounds?

Thx.

I have a Westcott Smokey Gray background and am thinking about a second one. I recently read Monte Zucker's Portrait Photography Handbook (nice quick read). He suggested a green background because "the subject's skin tone will appear richer and rosier, regardless of whether the person is light or dark completed [Sic?]" He thought blue would work as well as cool colors will recede in the portrait.

Mostly leaning them up against a wall, but a simple reflector holder will also hold them. Remember - they are the same construction as collapsible reflectors!
