Hi everyone,

Looking through B&H, I found this Pocket Wizard cable: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ails&Q=&sku=132474&is=REG (external link)

Just wondering if that has the groove which makes it unsuitable for the Sunpak 383. I already have cables for my Skyports, but if this is suitable for my 383's, I thought I'd buy a spare with my next B&H order (adding to cart won't increase the shipping, so why not?). Here is the groove that I'm talking about: http://flashzebra.com/tips/sunpakplugs/index.shtml (external link)

The B&H link says that it's suitable for the 383 so you would have to assume that it is fine.

If you are in anyway handy with a soldering iron, it is fairly easy to change the socket in the 383 to a standard one that will work with your skyport cable.

The other thing to consider is how you are going to support your flash, generally you will need some form of hot shoe to go on a light stand/tripod.

Flashzebra have some really good quality ones (un-seen but have some on order) that are specifically made for this purpose with a flying lead to go into your Skyports.

My recommendation would be to go with the high quality shoe option as some of the local stuff that I have been able to sorce have been absolute rubbish.

Cheers

Mark

I have all that stuff already, all I'm looking for is a possibility of buying a spare cable from B&H. Thanks anyway.

Do not use any cable with a groove in a 383, regardless of who tells you it is OK (B&H, or even Sunpak-Tocad).

The groove gets jammed on an internal feature in the 383 port on almost all 383 flash units. There are a few 383's that escape this very significant issue. Do you really want a cable that is permanently attached to your 383?

Enjoy! Lon

No, I don't, Lon. That's why I was asking the question. :)
