Hey all, I've come from a film based background (mainly editing) using constant lighting, and been asked to fill in for a small studio shoot for lighting / photographer.

I've got a canon 40d, and am familiar with setting up key / fill lighting etc, and the actual end result the clients are looking for doesn't appear to be very complicated (see example). I just have no idea what sort of strobe lighting and accesories to hire as I've never done this before. I've had a good look through the forums and on the web in general (my head hurts!) but couldn't find what I was after.

If anyone can give me a hand I'd be very grateful :)

The example looks like it's been shot with a single bare-bulb flash. Save your money.

Thanks for the reply :)

It's not my money (whew!) so that's not an issue. I'd like to get some sitting down shots, some props, and whatnot, that photo is an example of the kind of hard light that they want.

I guess what I'm asking (sorry I didn't make it clear) is what setup from the equipment list availble should I be looking at in order to get a strobe key / fill light and possibly a hair light setup with a 40d camera.

Thanks :)

The example you show looks like a single flash on camera with no fill or hair lights. I'm surprised there isn't red-eye since the light looks so close to the lens axis. Maybe it was photoshopped out. In fact, the light source looks so close to the lens axis that, unless the lens was really a long focal length, it could even be a built in camera flash. That's what I think, for whatever it's worth.
