Inspired by Gavin's high ISO Cricket shots, I've been looking for a chance to put the 70-200 f/2.8 w/2X TC through it's paces in marginal conditions up to ISO 3200.
It was an overcast day threatening rain & I saw the St. Louis Minor League Playoffs being held right next to the road so I finally had my chance.
Here's a few of the results. Wish I'd thought to get a few shots without the TC.
1. ISO 800 Cropped off the right side.
2. ISO 1600. No crop.
3. ISO 1600. No crop.
4. ISO 1600. Cropped off the right side. If I can count the freckles on his face, the results of the 2X TC are better than I'd expected.
5. ISO 3200 Cropped off the right side.
6. ISO 3200 - Ya gotta hold your mouth just right!
ISO 3200 No crop.
7.
ISO 3200 No crop.
8.
So my conclusion is that I wouldn't be afraid to use this combination IF I had to, but overall I'd rather not.
Next on the list is to shoot with the combination & without, & cropping the "without" image to match the "with" image size.
