I've been waiting all year to get a decent shot of the front end of a double play and finally I think I got a couple of decent ones despite the tough backlighting and being shot through chain link. Second one may be just OOF but I liked the action. EXIF embedded. C&C appreciated.

Chris - I think that top one is the best sports shot you've ever put up of any sport !

The second one is nice too, but the first has better colour, is sharper and shows two faces with great expressions)

Well done !!!

The first one is nice, but I have a question:

How did he get so far off the bag?

This space for rent.

Darsk:

Thanks Man! Really appreciated. Baseball is certainly much better than hockey to shoot for lighting and facial expressions and the like. Maybe I'll start focusing on well lit soccer fields and rugby pitches this winter!

Matt:

If you are referring to the defensive guy, he is the 2B man and was coming across the bag to field a throw from SS-3B. Hence he carried toward the left of the bag. For interest sake here is the full sequence. I think I might have liked the the last one in sequence better than the posted one if only the ball had traveled another foot or two!

great shot man. If there is one thing I hate about baseball is when you have to overexpose to get eyes in baseball. Makes everything "glow" it seems.

Matt:

Thanks! The backlight did not help for sure, nor did the fact that the park maintenance folks have not cut the OF grass in a week or two and there are little white clover heads all over the place. Gives even more of that "glowy" feeling! I really appreciate the string of beautiful sunny weather we have been having here, but is it too much to ask for a nice bright overcast day when I am shooting?!

wow - there's a switch, a north left coaster complaining about sun

Move east this year.....with today's late afternoon downpour we have already broken a 30 year record for a wet July in the (ahem) centre of the country.

PS - great sequence and a nice turn by the 2-bag man!

Darsk:

I am a Hamilton boy and lived in Guelph a long while...I sometimes miss a good ol Southern Ontario summer thundershower. Our Victoria weather is making up for a very cold, wet June so I am not complaining too much!
