Early morning Park (HDR)

I got up early today to go and try some shots in the nearby park as it was supposed to be foggy. A light mist was all I got so I figured I would try some exposures for a HDR picture ( My first try ). A lesson learned is that a grey boring sky still looks like a grey boring sky in HDR ! Another is low light pics don't work too well as they come out looking like a normal pic shot in the day time . 30D, 17-40 and Picturenaut.

The pic looks crooked but the monument checks out true....

Yeah, HDR isn't gonna do much for you when your histogram is basically "between the 40s*"

You need more exposure range to really make it work well. The whole point of HDR is to be able to have detail in the brilliant highlites while also being able to have shadow detail. You need a scene which would otherwise be uncapturable due to the exposure range.

(* An American Football term for a game that isn't using the full length of the field. A game where most of the action is only within 10 yards either side of mid field...)

Thanks. I did try to get as many pics across the range as possible without getting silly but I think I might try for more difference between the exposures. I will wait till the sky clears later and try again. Perhaps some discernable cloud night help out.

Another one. In retrospect I am not crazy about the angle but at least it looks foggy.

aaaaaaaand another one. This one was done when it was pretty dark so other than the blown out lights I am happy enough with it.
