I took this on the 400d with the nifty fifty, just wanted to capture as much detail as possible, I like the way the reflections on the front of the mic, mirror the background also.

Focus point was on the upside down triangle from the logo, taken hand held.

Only processing was opening with UFRaw and changing the White Balance to "Shade", then save as a 8bit PNG, crop was taken with the GIMP and saved as another 8bit PNG, you can even see the smaller mess inside, but not enough light to see the gold sensor.

100% crop

Nice tone. All I'd say is that it's probably not a great idea to save a RAW conversion as an 8 bit PNG if you're going to re-edit and resave - you're putting the image through 2 layers of compression that is going to degrade the image. Try making the first save as a 16 bit uncompressed tiff - then export to an sRGB jpeg for final export.

There's a little chroma noise on the 100% crop, but I see that behaviour from the sensor on my 400d at that iso too - unless you want to consider NR, I wouldn't worry too much about it - it certainly doesn't seem to subjectively affect the image when reduced to display sized crops.

As for how the image "sounds" - It seems to have a bit of a Chinese accent from where I'm sat ;)

Thanks for taking the time to comment Irreverent.

I thought PNG was lossless format that supported EXIF, thats why I went for it over JPEG which is lossy, see here (external link)

Your right about the noise, was tempted to run DPP's noise reduction on it, but decided not to as I was already in UFRaw and I was too lazy to open up a 2nd Raw converter

Ahh - I just learned something about PNG there. I was mistaken all this time - I'd always believed it was a lossy format.

Thanks for setting me straight :)
