550 Ex Master Slave question

Would a 550 EX work as a master and slave a 430EX?
Also do you think the 550 EX is a step above the 403 EX

The 550EX will act as a master to a 430EX slave. A step up? Marginally more power, worse ergonomics. But it's also a master....That's the setup I use.

The 550 is a master, but the 580 is much easier to use as a master. Unless you need the master stick with the 430, the 550 has slightly more power and a high voltage battery pack input port, but it's more clunky. I use one for weddings though, on my 2nd camera, or off camera.
