G2 - macro lens?

hey guys, im a super newbie when it comes to lens attatchments.

I have a canon g2, and i am interested in buying macro lens. After doing a search on this forum, I've found bits and peices of info but Im still unsure what i need to buy.

So what do i need to buy for my stock canon g2 for a macro lens? and where should i buy it. from my understanding, the "lens adapter" is pretty straight foward, but whats the best-bang-for-the-buck lens?

also anyone have sample pictures??

Hi Super Newbie, The first thing you'll need is a lens adapter, as the standard lens barrel on the "G" series cameras are not threaded, so will not accept screw on close up lens/filters.

thanks bruce. that link really helps, so im planning to buy the adapter from there. but a bit confused, the adapter sold there is compatable with 49mm filters right??

also i just found a 3 peice 49mm lens kit on ebay, but its was made 10-15 years ago. would the quality be the same??

That is what I'm seeing too, but shouldn't be a problem if you have accessories with larger thread size, as they also sell step up/down rings that act as adapters for different thread size accessories.
As far as the set you found on ebay goes, I'd say it would depend more on the manufacturer than it would on the vintage of the product.
I think the absolute BEST thing for you to do would be to email them(Lensmate) and tell them what you want to do, and what you have, while asking them which setup would be right for you.

I just sent you a private message. I have a mint condition macro set that I used only a few times on my G2 - I have no need for them any longer and would like to pass them onto another G-series user. Let me know what you think.

i bought the Canon lens adapter (58mm) which cost me 20 bucks from ritz, then i spent about 30 on the Quantaray close up filter set. id say it was a good buy. Installation is straightforward also. Just screw the lens adapter onto the camera and then screw on the filter onto the adapter. Ill post a few pics of it soon. I recently bought it and am trying to get some nice ones up.

i'll see how the lens works out. 12 bucks for an old set. may not have double coating and could possibily cause ghosting and flare. :dunno: we'll see

I got my filters from them as well. Differnt magnifications that you can screw on. I think the max you get with all stacked up was 6. Works out neat when macro cant get me close enough.
