Maternity Shoot, Didnt go so well!!!!

It was hard to instruct them!! Very hard!

A few I liked though but know I could have done better!

I recently did a photo shoot of my pregnant friend. I'm still a newbie so I feel I get good shots with luck. I know what you mean about feeling like you could have done better. I took hundreds of pictures of my friend and in the end I really only liked a handful. In my opinion, pic # 2 would look better if you cropped off the bottom of her face. Is that horrible to say? Her mouth just makes her look uncomfortable to me. Another shot you may want to try, in case you need more ideas, blocks (they can spell out "baby" or the child's name or even the last name). I found they looked best when the mother held them below the belly. I also did the hands in a heart on the belly along with the fathers and I borrowed my kid for an additional hand on the belly. Just some random thoughts.

I think 1, 4, and 6 are very good... I like the soft look. I feel some more playing around with these images in Photoshop could really make them pop!

I think #2 is the best but I agree on cropping out her face. I really don't care for the tulle wrapped around the belly at all. All I can think when I look at that is how itchy it must have been for the mom.

#1 is cute except the mom's hand looks HUGE. #5 I think would have been better if you had captured the connection between mom and her daughter. We can see the adoring look on the little girl's face and it might have been nice to see mom looking back.

Hey...The Tulle was her idea...she'd seen it in another photo she wanted to create...

The faces were a real issue for me as she always looked very stern in all the photographs thats why I have had to chop heads out of most things!! Its really a pain in the ass

Yeh I think you might be right about the face...i just wanted a little bit of identity in the picture for her as it could have been anyones belly

Thankyou...im so bad in photoshop this is about as far as I can go! haha

I actually think you have something going here....and fresh new take on your run of the mill Mat poses...well done. :P

Thankyou....I looked again the next day with some fresh eyes n found afew more I liked.

I took all the ones i'd edited round to them and they loved them so much so atthe end of the day It was a success in thier eyes!

A lot of blown highlights and too much diffuse glow, honestly. I have had clients who were hard to pose, but I do think it's your job as a photographer to maximize what you've got to work with, and it's not very smart to say that your client made your job a pain in the ass on a public forum that anybody can find.

They wernt clients just friends and he just didnt want his photo taken!!

Ive not said anything I didnt say to them!!!

I really really love #4!!!

I think the photos look great. If your friends like them, that's the bottome line IMO, whether you like them or not-not to say you should't try and please yourself, or make better photos, just that you should try and deliver what the client wants.
