Are there any off-camera hot-shoes out there that don't require you to trigger them via a built-in PC cord with a male connector?

All the ones I can find (e.g. Hama - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …2_Hot_Shoe_Adapter_2.html (external link) , Kaiser - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …01301_PC_to_Hot_Shoe.html (external link)) look like they have the cord built into the unit which, apart from making them much more likely to get pulled over and take the flash with them, makes it infinitely more hard to adapt them to skyports or other receivers.

What is everyone using to fire their flashguns off-camera?

The cord you see is about 12 inches long....not likely to trip anyone up.

I use the Canon wireless system right now for the EX units. Radio transmitters and triggers for the studio lights. Soon to be radio transmitters for all. It will require a cable from the trigger to the flash somehow.

Check FlashZebra (external link) for parts to get this done.

I wasn't so much thinking of it tripping people up but of it getting caught on someone's clothing when walking past, wrapping around the camera when I'm adjusting the stand, e.t.c. e.t.c. Trust me, if there's a way for something to get knocked over, either me, my MUA or my assistant will find a way to do it :)

Thanks for the link... pity the hotshoe with the 3.5mm jack is out of stock or I may just have ordered a few and got it over with.

Hermes -
Alternative is to add the "Aux Sync Jack" directly to your flash unit, and then attach the radio receiver to to the flash head (Velcro, tape, rubber bands, etc) and connect the two using a short custom fit sync cord...nothing extra to catch, and then you can use any cold shoe or anything else to mount the flash.

Thanks Michael. If I were just using a couple of good flashes then adding sync ports to them might make sense but I have quite a few manual-only flashguns that I use off-camera so I aim to have a set-up (stand, adapter, swivel head, hot shoe, wireless trigger e.t.c.) that stays connected so that all I have to do to set-up is slide any flashgun onto the hot-shoe and start shooting.

While searching I came across this on B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …tails&Q=&sku=89977&is=REG (external link)

It has more functions than I need but crucially it has a female PC sync-jack and it has a collar around the foot to secure it to the accessory shoe. They're pricey (even pricier with the $40 shipping charge to the UK) but I'd pretty much given up on finding a cheap solution so I snapped and ordered a few.

There are plenty of inexpensive hot shoes that have the locking foot, and 2 PC jacks like this:

Where were you twenty minutes and one-hundred-and-fifty dollars ago?

Hehe, It doesn't matter. I use other Hama stuff and I know their construction is worth paying extra for over the unbranded accessories, and that they have support in the UK if i need it. There were also some umbrellas I had planned to buy from B&H so it probably didn't work out much more expensive than buying cheaper hot-shoes from somewhere else and paying a whole new shipping charge. Thanks for the effort though.
