I just wish the grip of the 40D looks like that of Sony A700. I like that look.

I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of my YongNuo grip from DealExtreme.com. I've ordered plenty of stuff from them, some of it great some not so great but I always knew what I was buying. In this case I'm taking a chance. Why? Because the Canon grip is over 2X as much and this looks identical. Also, I bought a YongNuo OC-E3 cord and it was identical to the Canon off-shoe cord except for the name on it. I'm wagering that this grip IS the Canon grip just released under another name.

Maybe I'm wrong, but even the documentation screams Canon to me:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12487 (external link)

And to weigh in on the AA vs BP511 debate, in my experience with my XT (350D) over the last 3 years, even with high end NiMH AA's up to 2700mAH rated, they just don't stand up as long as the NB-2LH's. Now I have the aftermarket NB-2LH's which are higher capacity than OEM but still. For me AA batteries in the grip are not the best solution, but certainly a nice thing to have in the off chance I run out of charge whilst being out and about.

wow that sure looks like the same grip as the canon....I am about to pull the trigger on a grip and for me in Canada this is great the grip is over $300.00 here plus taxes.

This knock off can be shipped in without duty. and free shipping to canada....hmmm 74% less cost... is worth the risk/reward to me. And it does look similar. Doesn't look as cheap as other 3rd party knock offs.

Please let me know how this grip works for you.

I use the Phottix on my 30D almost daily. I'm yet to find any differences. Performance, fit and finish are JUST like the Canon grip on my 40D. I have problem with 3rd party lenses or accessories.

Ya know, not that I have any great love for a Japanese company that dumps products onto the market at exorbitant prices before they are ready, but by buying "knockoffs" of a patented product, you are just making things worse than they already are, probably contributing to higher prices for the real deal and showing your true colors as someone who would knowingly buy a stolen item to save a buck.

Hey I am an Engineer in the Auto industry. I know the price of knock offs and global markets more then anyone else right now.

I also know that most of us in mangement that still have jobs/careers have taken paycuts to keep our jobs while people on the floor of my company without an education make more money then I do now. and they have a pension and I don't.

This means I need to save money where I can save money. I fully hear what your saying. I don't like to foster the rip off of patented products. But they will continue to do this from these other countries if we like it or not. I am not saving a buck I am saving $249.00 and that is a lot of cash.

Our Dollar in Canada is pretty much at par with US. Yet the same product is 20-40% more in Canada still... My country is not helping itself. The primary manufactures need to find ways to go after people infringing on patents... unfortunately they have no way of controlling certain countries stealing out right designs.

I would love to buy local and support anyone local and I will do so when I can even if it cost me a few bucks more. I respect that I will get service. but 75% more is just not in my budget. Local companies and businesses need to find aggressive ways to compete in the market instead of waisting time complaining about it. That is wasted Energy. I see this everyday where I work and it drives me nuts. We have solutions we have methods and we have ways to improve but no one wants to invest any capitol money right now.

For a mear $65,000 in equipment I can save my company 1.6 million a year and yet they refuse to take advantage of it because they are public market driven and won't spend $65,000 in capitol as that is too much money to spend in this economy.... If someone told me I could invest $65,000 and get 1.6 million back in a year, for the next 7 years. I would find a way to get 65,000. Trust me I went up every ladder and knocked on every door in my company to the point it almost cost me my job. I was told to go back in my corner and do paper work because we just don't have money to spend.

My friend works at an import auto maker and got approved for 1.2 million dollar project that will save them 1.6 million a year over the 5 year life of the line. This is why we are loosing. Too much focus on how cheap it can be made now with how little money spent up front. This means more and more poor quality products in the mainstream. Trust me we let more junk out the door now because the risk of getting caught later does not out weight the reward of making a penny now. Please don't take this as a personal attack more of my view point from an educated person working in the industry that is most suffering at this time in our lives. I have not seen it this bad since I started working in it 14 years ago.

Canon grip. I can comfortably work with 3rd parties in the optical chain (lighting, lenses, etc) I am quite paranoid about 3rd party equipment in the power chain. The grip that can kill my camera AND my warranty all at the same time is not for me -- no matter how unlikely it might be.

Trust me if my wife would move away from her family I would be gone... in a heart beat...
I wouldn't say it is like that for everything. But I know a lot of canadians that shop in the US right now at border cities. Even for groceries. It is cheaper to spend the gas to drive an hour on a weekend and stock up then to purchase here and pay 13% tax ontop of everything....which by the way just went down from the 15% it was at for years.

MATT- Valid point I had not thought about. will have to look into it more. my camera will be used and out of coverage. So I have to weigh the risk and would the repair be under $250.00 if it did happen... at that point it is break even.

No, this is not why we are losing. Those overseas car companies are government subsidized. No private company can compete with that. You want to change it, vote out the toads in your government who give breaks to foreign companies and vote in those who will make it a level playing field. And don't buy their junk, even if it is cheaper.
