End all to 40D grip questions..hopefuly..

I do not make the trips. for me it would be a few hours to hop the boarder and I am trying to buy in Canada when I can even for a few bucks more. I want to support my local people.

ie. I scuba dive and I pay about 15% more for my gear locally but I do it because he has the compressor I need to fill my tanks. I need to support him when I can.

For big ticket items and large savings I have to consider options. Saving 10 bucks doesn't mean a lot to me, if it supports my community. Saving $250 on one item does.

ie I have no camera shops near me. Closest is in a small town about 45 mins away. I called them for a price on my grip for my XT and they wanted $269.00 for the XT grip. I bought mine here used in mint shape off a POTNer for $115.00 pretty much new.

I used to by from Alberta another provice as they have no tax in that province where I have 13% in mine. It saved me 13% but they have caught on and have been forced people to charge on it by our province.

subsidized or not... they have less warranty issues and work with their suppliers. I also supply import parts and they are fabulous to work with. you tell them you need 15% more money to get a project off the ground for them properly and you get it. You tell that to GM and they cut 15% off of what you quoted and they tell you to take the job or they will pull everything you make away from your company. Just last week we finally told them to go ahead and pull everything that we can not make parts at a loss anymore. Right now they are still in shock with us. We threatened to stop production next week.

Good idea. Mods hate to have to clean up messy threads and this is getting that way. And you don't want to irritate a Mod!

If you get the grip, may I also suggest the E1 handstrap. It makes the camera SO much easier to use, and you look hella cool holding that big chunk of DSLR in one hand!

I just took off my neck strap cause it was buggin me on my XT. I can only imagine I won't like it on the bigger camera as well. I have small hands.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was sort of looking at those as well and wondering. Does your hand come out of it easy to flip into portrait vs landscape?

Sure does. Although, I find I usually just leave it in and shoot original position most of the time.

I went without the strap for a while, but put it back on recently when I had some jobs where I was carrying multiple bodies.

Well, if you believe the info on them, the AA's I had were 2700MaH, while the BP-511's are only 1350. And I did get close to 3000 clicks off the first charge. But there is something about the quick recycle time, that didn't hold up, like shooting at 6fps, the twin BP's were more stable.

However, the two BP batteries are parallel, so it equals out, because 2 times 1350 is 2700. even the voltage is higher, it is cut down in the cam, so you can ignore it. Sometimes thinking before posting could be a benefit.

I got the BG-E2N today for my 40D, and I'm loving it!!

By the way, for those of you trying to use AA batteries, the manual states:

"When AA size batteries are used, the continuous shooting speed during AI Servo AF will slow down. Also fewer images can be shot. Therefore, usage of AA size batteries is recommended only for emergencies. Use of AA size batteries is also not recommended when connecting the camera to a computer."

Sometimes stating the obvious isn't required, but I'll make an exception in your case. The reason they didn't hold up is not because of voltage drop, but because the MaH drops off right from the start. And did you know that? I admit, I didn't and it isn't stated anywhere in the pages of reseacrch I did on the batteries before I invested in them.

Hi All,

I'm pretty much a newbie here on the threads but I have been a lurker for a while now. I have the 40D, upgraded from the 20D back in February. I am using the BG-E2 that I bought with 20D and it has worked flawlessly. It used to report low a low charge state on the 20D even after recharging and I was told I needed to send the grip in to have it serviced; btw, the issue has never come up on the 40D.

I do have a question on the grip however; does anyone know where I can get a replacement AA battery holder for the BG-E2? It has somehow vanished from my bag and I haven't been able to find it.

i don't think people buy 3rd party grips for the feel of the grip. i would say 99% of the users buy them because they are cheaper.

i had a canon grip on my xti and i plan on getting a canon grip for my 40d.

i paid alot for the camera, i am not going to slack on the grip, which i consider part of the camera.

i'm am not saying 3rd party grips are not good, but it is peace of mind for me as well.
