was with a buddy on the weekend and he has the phottix grips on his 30D and one of his 40D and the canon grip on a 40D.... other then the name I am having a hard time telling the difference. My guess is they are made in the same factory. He has had both of them for a bit and swears by them. No issues and feels the same.

The Opteka for the 30-40D on the other hand he said was junk and wouldn't give one away for free. He would rather trash it.

As for me, the question already ended...

I just bought BG-E2N couple of days ago. I thought my 40D + grip will be heavy for my liking, but amazingly it is just fine for me.

I too thought I would dislike the size of the grip, but I can't hold a camera now without them. I even wrote canon and asked for a grip for the G9! :)

I'm still debating on getting one or not lol, I'd love to just play with a 40d that has one before purchasing but the local camera shops either don't have the grip, don't have the 40d or won't let me try a grip on their display.

Funny thing is it's the ever so popular Shutterbug stores that won't let me. I even took my own 40d into the store and asked if I could try and they said no. Funny thing is they let me play with 3k lens all day.

LOL...I'd be very interested to know if anyone hates their XXD body with a grip. You can have my Opteka grip:D; I absolutely hate that one. You pay shipping and it's yours.

lol I don't think a grip will make someone hate their xxD body, the grip is ALWAYS removable.. I hear mixed reviews on the Opteka, some people love it, some don't.

Okay so the YongNuo grip arrived last night. Dropped two batteries in it and it fired right up. Looks and feels great to me. The rubber on it is very similar to the rubber on the 40D body. I'm very happy with my purchase it feels sturdy and well built.

I also picked up a remote trigger for the 40D for about $26US. It's radio not IR and my wife went down the block with the transmitter and was still taking pictures through walls and trees and stuff! This is the third YongNuo product I've had and they have all been excellent. If someone in the Boston area wants to do a side by side with their BG-E2N just let me know!
