Layston:

Do you have pictures of the Yong Nuo grip mounted on the 40D?

There is one problem I had when I put the grip on my 40D, which was the first day and even before I took the first shot, because the grip arrived the day before the body. And that was the QR plate for my 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead. I had to turn the female plate around, so the lever worked forward instead of to the rear like it was. With the 300/4 on, it was too close for the lever to open. I could mount the lens, then twist the body one, but that got old fast. Anyone else had that problem with theirs? :)

Okay, pics taken VERY quickly with my S3-IS, cropped and resized.

Back with Sigma 70-200 EX APO HSM (Version 1) (external link)

Another Shot of the back. (external link)

3/4 View from behind. (external link)

Side View - best view of the 70-200 (external link)

Let me know if you want to see any other views.

This should satisfy someone wanting to see the grip on my 40D and also the person who wanted to see a 70-200 on a camera with a grip.
Personally I think the all black lens/grip/body setup looks pretty sexy.

Edit on Tuesday August 26, 2008:
FYI - I shot a wedding with it this weekend and it was fantastic. I shot for 6+ hours and over 8 GB of photos and with my two batteries the battery level never even said it was low.

Is that the yong or Canon grip?
If its the canon, could you post pics of the yong one?
Thanks

That's the Yong Nuo grip - I don't have a Canon grip. I would love to borrow one to do a side-by-side and be methodical about it.

i have the canon grip with me and the only difference i see between the yong grip is the battery cover. on the canon there's a slight groove on the middle edge, but its completely flat on the door. i just got my grip in today and im a little dissapointed but nothing substantial. when u hold in vertical position on the grip i wish the inside edge was more curved like on the 40d. but instead its more square with a slight fillet. but i think its needed to be more square so that the camera doesnt tip forward easily. also a groove for the thumb would be nice like on the 40d body but i guess from a design standpoint or more engineering standpoint the battery would have been moved or relocated a little.

Opteka Grip... while another member on here respectfully sent me an Opteka grip to try on my 30D for the cost of shipping it....I have had it on for two days but I ahve been busy. So not much use. Snapped about 40 pictures with it so far...

Here is my take... Although it didn't fit too bad I had to take it off and put it on a couple of times to make it work. I thought it might be one battery low. So I charged it and put it back in... had to take the grip off the camera looked it and didn't find anything. I put it back on the camera and it seems to be working fine since.

It fits tight, it is not loose or flaky and does seem sturdy. I will give it a few more days and try it some more....

Pros; it is cheap (real cheap only cost me shipping, Thanks Kevin) It doesn't appear flimsy and it fits tight on the camera.

cons for me; I don't like the way the batteries go in it...just personal. and I like the portrait mode for taking pictures however. No apature control and no dial wheel for shutter control... you have to use the standard ones on the camera. All you get is the shutter trigger... This part sucks for me now that I am shooting manual.

For someone shooting auto or who has gianormous fingers it might be ok. but I have to flip the camera to landscape or awkwardly use my left hand to contol shutter speed and stretch my right thumb for ap. control... I have small hands so this part sucks..

I will however give it a bit more of a try and see what comes up once I use it a bit more. If I still don't like it I will ask Kevin if he wants it back....or I will pay it forward to someone else that would like to try it... for the cost of shipping it...$5-15.... it is worth playing with.. I am sure this will not be my perminate grip.

Thanks again Kevin...

Good to hear your thoughts on this grip. Your cons fall in line with my biggest gripes about the Opteka XXD grip. The battery compartment, lack of controls and the addition of unnecessary controls/switches.

No need to send it back this way; I'm happy with my Canon and Phottix grips:D. Pay it forward sounds like a great idea if you decide to not keep it.

how many extra controls/buttons does the canon grip have over the grip you gave away for free?
