I bought a Pelican 1524 and thought my 30D with grip would be a nice fit. It seems a little tall. I can get it closed but am worried it is to tight of a fit. How snug should the lid go down if something is on the taller side? I don't wanna damage my gear.

I decided to send it back in change for a 1554. I also did not like the divider setup. I know the can be changed but it was lacking somewhat. The thing that I really did not like was the had 2 dividers setup in a T so to speak so your camera goes on the "T" top and your lense down the trunk. The issue was the top was only barely half wide to fit the body.
