After using my 70-200 2.8 IS for volleyball and basketball (very dim lite gym), I've ordered the 85 1.8.

Be interesting to see which I use the most on my 40D.

I love my 85 1.8. After a bit of experimentation, I ended up shooting basketball at f4 a lot of the time (1/400 at ASA 1600 as I recall) because of the 85's very narrow depth of field at 1.8.

I just picked up a 70-200 f4 for football this Fall, but may see how it performs in the High School gyms I frequent.

I'll probably use the 85 1.8 for most of my indoor stuff, but I'm going to experiment indoors with the 70-200, just to see what kind of results I can get.

I use the 85mm for about 80% of my VB, the rest is the 135mm F/2. My gym is way to dark for the 70-200 ( iso3200, 1/320 @ f/2.8 ) to get quality shots. You will love the lens, just watch out for the narrow DOF. Your focus has to be spot on.
