I have a client wanting me to shoot a Quinceañera. I have shot a few weddings, but not one of these. My question is regarding the price... I have no idea how to price one of these.... She also wants me there from 9:00 am to 9:00 PM... LONG DAY.... does anyone have any pricing ideas for this kind of event? Thanks for any input! (there wouldn't be any "package" prices... she just wants the photos on a cd, which is fine with me.... )

Are the images going to be used commercially?

No, just a private family.

Figure out a good hourly rate, one which takes into consideration the hour spent shooting, AND how long you spend in prep and post-processing. I'm starting out at $100/hour, figure $50/hour is a good hourly rate to be standing there shooting, and I guestimate an hour of PP for each hour of shooting (this includes Photoshop, as well as generating/mailing the CD, handling emails, etc.....)
Do you think your skills warrant $50 an hour? Don't forget, that out of that $50 an hour has to come taxes (which eats into alot, especially if you're an independent contractor as opposed to having an employer)

So I would charge $1200.

Charge what you would charge for a wedding. These events are often as complex and as long as one. And usually mean almost as a much to the parents too.

I'd charge it similar to what you'd charge for a wedding. There are quite a few similarities between the two and the time you put in will certainly be the same.

I would say that Dennis is right on, and I would also charge $1200.00
