I am searching for a tripod mount for macro use that would allow me to shift the lens position in order to fine tune manual focusing. I have not had any luck searching catalogs, Wimberly, or my local camera dealer. I am probably not using the right keywords for my Internet searches. I would have expected to find something with a rack and pinion drive or, at least manual adjustment that didn't require shaking the camera too much. The closest thing that I found was a long Wimberly Arca-Swiss type mount. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

What you're looking for is a focusing rail like this (external link) , try googling focus rail photography.

Thank you so very much, Ron. I suspected that I didn't know what to call them and that was the reason for no luck in finding anything. Again, thank you!

Search around the net for this if the Novoflex is a bit rich for your blood:

I use two together (one mounted at right angle to the other) to control fine focus in both axis.
Works great.

I was considering mounting my machinist's vise on my tripod after seeing the first price.

Personally this is the rail that I prefer.

Granted, I doubt that you will find one for $35.00 like I did in a local photography shop, but it a very nice rail that also allows me do do spot on panoramas as I can center the nodal point directly over the center pivot point.

You don't take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.

Velbon macro rails for me.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Ill second that one. I bought this one (external link) from B&H and really like it. I find that I shoot 99% of my macro handheld so I never really used it and will probably be selling it soon. If anyone is interested PM me.
