Probably a dumb question, but are the master commanders like the ST-E2 or the 580EX compatible to work as masters with Canon's digicams like the S5IS or the G9?

Canon's website only states that the ST-E2 is for EOS cameras, but I kind of assume it will work with the hotshoe equipped digicams too...

The 580EX works with the G9 as a master but I'm not sure about the S5 IS since I don't have that camera. If the 580EX works as a master on the G9, I suppose the ST-E2 should also but I can't confirm that since I don't have an ST-E2 either.
