This may not be the proper location but thought I would post anyway. I decided to try and draw a picture of my wife's favourite bird, the chickadee, for her birthday from a photo I had taken in the fall. I gave it to her on Friday. She was completely blown away. I thought, well cool that went better than I thought. So I did another of a jay I caught earlier this year. Some artistic options were taken with each :-)

Weird thing is the last time I drew a picture was when I was 12 (now almost 38 ) and it was from a comic book. I am now thinking I may do a few more. My pics (of the Gray Owls) in a previous post were taken with the intent of doing a sketch of one of them.

Now it seems I may have even more justification to get ye big lens of choice

Pretty cool Mike. I like them both. I can't wait for the owl - those pics are very sweet.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Great drawings. Hard to believe you have been ignoring such talent. Were you just not aware you could draw?

I used to draw alot as a kid until I got into computing and then being a teen led to other pursuits :-)

I would recently sketch building/yard ideas and the like but never birds. Very weird. I guess I was never inspired. What really got me thinking was my 2 year old.

I am a work at home dad and spend much time colouring with her. My drawings with her have been growing more detailed. We both draw but she colours in what I sketch. So it wasn't until I did a T-rex, velociraptor and some other dinosaur that had pretty excellent detail that I thought hey, these aren't bad. I've been kinda looking for something artsy/creative beyond photography and may have found it -- again.

Next pic is an owl. Each of these drawings was 2 hours each. The owl will take loads more time but I am looking forward to it. Maybe next weekend. BTW, these images will also be our Christmas cards this year it seems :-)

Also, going to order a 400 5.6 this week.

Thanks to all of you for the kind comments.

While it is my wife and little one that inspire the drawing, it is the photos that you folks take and post that inspire me to take more pictures.

Hats off!
