I'm pretty sure there's a Cooper's hawk having a short stay on the property where I rent.....

I'm assuming it's found a food source....

If so, for those that know the Cooper's, how long might I expect it to hang around for?

Grabbed a quick shot of it's back, but way too slow a shutter speed with my 20D + 100-400 @ ISO 1600.

Thanks!

Tom D

I had one come to my yard, perch on a stick for a few minutes, watching all the little birds quiver in fear, then left. I know he got one bird for sure over a couple days, then he left and never came back.

I had one come around early spring and took out a mourning dove, hung around for a few days and I haven't seen it since

I really think it depends on how much food is available and how easy it's to catch. I think most birds of prey are opportunist and look for an easy meal without dispensing too much energy...of course, if it's an immature still learning the ropes it may 'work' for a meal.

If there's a nest near-by it may hang around for a while...hard to say exactly how long it will stay though.

I've had a mature Coopers Hawk on my property for the last two mornings and evenings. I've seen it around before assuming it's the same one since the winter. No signs of a kill though but I know it's had some luck or it would have moved on by now.

Thanks for the responses.....email notification is STILL not working!!! ARG!

;)

I did see him (her?) on the ground yesterday morning with it's wing outspread.....perhaps it had a kill....

Last time I saw it was last night just before I posted my original topic...

Didn't see it tonight as I was out all day and didn't get back until just a few minutes ago...

But again, thanks for sharing your experiences. I hope I can get one more
chance to image it!
