I just ran across Amazon\Adorama\J&R pre-listing the Canon 430EX II for $329 and with an MSRP of $399.

Is Canon nuts? The 420EX was under $200, the 430EX is right at $250, and now the 430EX II is going to be prices in the lower $300's?
Damn Canon, why even release a 430EX II if its only going to be about $50-$60 less than the 580EX II. Hell, for $329, at least put a $0.10 wheel on it!

I remember not 6 months ago when you could pick up a 580EX II for about $340! Now that will only buy you a 430 EX II & an Omni-Bounce if your lucky enough to find a place with free shipping!

Disappointed to say the least.

If you don't like the price, don't buy it.

The 580EX II debuted at $499. It's $100 less now most places, before rebate. MSRP/intro prices are always high.

Having said that, Canon's prices really are going up. The 17-40L is now $700 even at B&H. Used to be a little less.

Pre-listings are always expensive. Prices drop soon after they're actually released.

Don't forget that companies structurally price their items, in an attempt to make the consumer spend slightly more on a slightly higher end model.

Differences between the 430EX and the II? Similar changes between the 580EX and II?

It will probably be cheaper once it comes out.

I'd bet money that it will most definitely become at least a little cheaper once it's been out for a period of time.

I just bought a 580ex II on Ebay for $389 less 10% from a coupon less 25% from live.com. Net cost about $260 (assuming the live.com money comes through).
