i've got a bit of a ghetto setup at home with my 580ex and sunpak 383's.. but i needed a lil more power and faster recycling. wasnt planning on spending a whole lot so i ended up taking a chance with a cheap square perfect sp300 strobe on ebay for 103$. claimed to be 300ws...

pics later when i get to play with it more.. but so far, fits nicely onto my generic bowens type speedring ... it seems built decent. it doesnt seem as powerful as i thought it would be compared to 580ex.. but it is definitely powerful. recycles quick as well.. never really worked with modeling lights so this should be nice.

does anyone here have any opinions on this? was it a bad buy? i plan on perhaps buying another 400ws model if i can find a sale item on ebay..

Thanks for posting the quick review. I was looking at one of those for my BG light. Funny they use the Squareperfect name but it's more round.

The spec looks great and good to hear it recycles quickly. I interested to hear more about your hands on experience on it. The other common complaints for cheap strobes, beside slow recycling, are they don't hit the rated power, get hot (poor cooling), inconsistent output from pop to pop, and poor fitting where parts put together, etc. After testing it, maybe you can give us some brief report on those functions.
