It had just rained, so I stepped out in the yard and snapped this one:

I'm glad you pointed that out because I hadn't actually noticed how close I came there. Thanks for the comments!

Nice shot. I don't know if you burned the shot in PS, or not, but, the green leaf in the top left quadrant of the rose is a bit bright, as compared to the rest of the background. Maybe burn that in, and with the crop, etc. it'll be poi-fect.

Hmmmm.... looks the same as the rest of the background on this monitor, but I'm not calibrated here, so perhaps that's the difference. Thanks for the input - I'll have a look at that in PS....

This is simply beautiful! A perfect bloom. I love flowers with rain. Background is perfectly OOF.
A bit close on top though - half the distance you have on the bottom would have done it

I went back and looked - the crop was in camera, so I really can't change it. But there was a better image from that standpoint, although the light was slightly different. That one turned out to be a bit harder to process the way I did the first, but it's not altogether terrible - just different.

I think I prefer the 1st one anyway. The darker background brings out the rose. Wish the rose was red though.

Both photos work well. I suppose it all depends which mood you wish to convey.
