I haven't upgraded my ps elements for a while and didn't think I had since i don't use all the doodads but apparently my version is not recognizing CR2 or RAW pics from my canon when it opens up the organizer. Is there an update I need to download for this to work or do i have to upgrade to a new version?

CR2 for which camera? The 40D uses new 14bit images, and even CS2 won't open those. I had to upgrade to CS3. However, Adobe does put out a converter that works on all RAW formats and converts them all to one new file format called .dng. And it's free, here (external link). Elements 3 and 4 will open the .dng files.

Also a tip if you're camera IS supported in PSE3 compatible ACR... follow the instructions CAREFULLY for installing the ACR plugin.

If you have a 40d, XS/XSi, 1dmkiii, 1dsmkiii, and perhaps 30d,XTi, and 5d, PSE 3 will not read them. For the first ones, you need PSE6, for the other three, I think you need PSE4, maybe PSE5. As canonloader said, adobe releases their dng converters every time ACR is updated, and they will work with all adobe products that support ACR.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
