Ok so I have been messing around with "manual" mode and am liking it..The exposure meter makes it easier to learn than i thought...But today i went back to "Av" mode and the exposure meter needle doesn't move...Did it move before in the creative zones or am i totally LOSING MY MIND????

No. In modes other than M the metering will always try to center the exposure. However, you can push the exposure one way or the other using exposure compensation.

That is correct. The needle will always center in "P", "Tv", or "Av" unless you are using exposure compensation or the light is such that the camera cannot set proper exposure.

In the AE modes, think of the meter as an exposure compensation indicator, rather than an exposure meter. Canon does.

Of course, you may still be totally losing your mind. That happens to many of us, perhaps even most of us.

I had come to the conclusion that you are losing your mind before I even read your post. :) :)
