Good shots, although #2 is blown pretty bad. Man, I'd hate to be the ump and make the call in #7. He's right on top of it, but it looks CLOSE!
Just curious as to why you had your ISO so high (800). Looking at your shutter speeds, you could have went down to 400 or maybe even 200. That said, there sure doesn't look to be any noise in them.

Matt:
Thanks! If I recall on that pitch his knuckle was promptly bashed for a triple or double or something.

Tim:
Not sure what parts of #2 look "blown out" to you. It was a pretty harsh backlight situation so I did have to boost exposure a bit in PP, however. My software only shows a touch on the ball, the number outlines and a bit on his right knee where whites are clipped. This was shot in the afternoon when sunny so perhaps that is why the grass is much brighter (that and all the damn white clover heads!).

As to ISO and shutter speeds, this was a pretty overcast and cool morning (when most shots except #2 and #1 were taken) and at 400ISO I was getting SS below 1/2000. I know this would likely have been OK, but I like to keep it up above 2000 so as to better freeze action, especially ball movement. Thus the 800 ISO...which as you noted is still pretty good for no noise.

Oh and BTW the ump made the right call...OUT..The player actually slid around the back of home and tried to catch it with his arm, but pitcher covering stuck with him and made tag.

Cheers!

Chris

Christian .... ignore what people are saying about shot number 2.... it is not blown out.... any time you take photos with harsh light like that you need to expose for the face/eyes .... sure you can expose for the grass and get a dark shadow on the players face but nobody will buy that ..... your coustomers honestly dont care if the grass looks a bit "hot"..... You did a good job and i'm looking forward to seeing more !!

Did you shoot those in RAW and process or JPeg? I like the pics. I am going to shoot my son's games when he stars back up, but I was wondering which setting I should use.

I always shoot RAW. It allows for greater flexibility in correcting lighting issues. Plus, with Adobe Lightroom, it really is a simple process to import and correct photos as needed. If I need JPEGS or TIFF etc. it is a simple single or batch export procedure.

On #7,

Is that one cropped? Maybe a wider version, if you have it?

dekalb:
Very little crop on that specific image...just a bit of grass cropped out in foreground. Here is entire sequence if that helps. There is additional cropping of some of the frame on the right in the subsequent shots.
