I did my part and voted in all 4 rounds.

Note to moderator: is it possible to create a sticky as before to the 4 rounds?

Tim is moving each set of 10 images into their own gallery, it should be done shortly and will make voting easier. Thanks!

So I'm sill confused as to why we are not voting on each subdivision at the same time. Are people here that terribly challenged that they can't handle more than 4 small galleries at once? Are we trying to draw out the voting to increase excitement? (*rolls eyes*)

Forgive me for my audacity, but this makes absolutely no sense to me.

Ok, here goes. [rant] Tim thought of this idea at the beginning of summer. He set it up, he designed it, HE DID ALL OF THE WORK. He has spent a lot of time entering text, making pages, ect. It is his choice on how to do it. If you don't like it, don't vote. [/rant]

Thank you Penguin. I was trying to say that earleir. I understand what you guys are saying about making this a long process but Tim asked for your guys imput and he has it all worked out. Can't change anything now anyways so you will just have to do it the way he has it all set up.

Kudos to Tim. I appreciate that he did all of the work, and I appreciate the work that he did. If the answer to my reasonable questions is that HE WANTS IT THAT WAY, then that is as valid an answer as my question were.

Your "If you don't like it, don't vote" is, however, not a very mature response. The questions are legitimate, and you did nothing towards answering them. I have valid reasons for my questions, and "taking your ball and going home" isn't a valid response, IMHO. My questions in no way invalidates anything Tim did, not would I want to do that.

The option of voting on all sub-galleries at one time, instead of stringing them out, seems to me to be valid as well. Sorry Meghan, but I see no technical reasons why that can't be set up, just as you added the groups 2-4 after the fact. I don't see how it's too late to change that.

Now, as to whether or not it SHOULD be changed, that was the real point of my question. I still stand by my earlier statements. Heck put up a poll to see if I'm out of line for asking for a reasonable answer instead of a childish rant. I'll be happy to withdraw my votes and my entry if that's what is decided. I just don't need to be ranted at when I ask a legitimate question.

As to why I am interested in seeing it changed: I will be out of the country, in an area that has no Internet (no phones, electricity by generator only) in a couple of weeks. Dragging this voting out will mean that I won't have input to the later stages. Not the end of the world, but as I see it, not something that has to be.

All IMHO. YMMV.

I can not do anything that Tim does not tell me to do. When he had me post the first poll he told me that we may post others shortly based on feedback. The overwhelming feedback made him to decide to post the rest of the first half.

The reason he doesn’t want 8 polls running at one time is because he feels it will get too disorganized. Also, as I already said earlier, he wants the images to have the same amount of time on display. The second half the images where on there about half as long.

Even if this doesn’t matter in the long run, it is how he wants to run the contest and it is how I’m going to do it (because I’m at his house and he is telling me to do so and if i dont listen to him he tickles me! ).

He gave everyone a chance to voice their opinions, i never actually saw the discussion but from what i understand it turned into a rather large feud and many members told him just to do it how he felt it was best.

The last part of your reply is what is really upsetting him and it isn’t just you. I think he's feeling that everyone who is complaining is doing so because they arn't getting their way. He just cant please everyone, and that’s ok just so long as he makes me happy .

So sorry if anything about this contest makes you mad, but don’t take it out on me, I’m just a messenger! I know how much time he has spent putting all of this together and how much it means to him. So please, dont fight. And it is supose to be fun, so just enjoy it!

Thank you for your reasonable answer. I certainly don't need to have things my way. I do appreciate the response to the questions however. I will point out that not everyone partook in the discussion of how the contest should be run, and that is perfectly OK. It should just not be assumed that everyone had a chance to give input. Of course, those who did not give input are properly out of luck at this time.

Certainly, if Tim has ANY sort of reason for running the contest strung out, then that is fine and reasonable. I was asking for answers and I finally got them. Much more reasonably than the Penguin chose respond (which was basically telling me I had no right to question anything!)

I'm definitely not mad at either Tim or you, Meghan. While Penguin ticked me off a bit, I'm not even very mad at him.

You can't please everyone in any effort of this sort, and I appreciate that. It does help to understand the rationale - thanks again for enlightening me.

It wasn't directed at you. It has been building up from a lot of diffrent members saying it was unfair, ect. It was just the

Ahhhh. Then the real problem is that the thread announcing the contest made no mention of how the voting was to be done. All of this info was in another thread in a totally different area of these forums, and I saw absolutely no reference to that thread until this.

It would have probably simplified Tim's life a bit (and others') had the following been included in initial post of every thread about this contest:

Here is what we're doing:

We are going to have several threads with polls.

There will be say, two a week. The top 3 photos out of 10 will be selected for the next "round" We will continue to do this until there are 10 photos left.

Bottom line.

Just my 2 cents.

It isn't her fault. She jumped in and is trying hard to keep this thing going , without her there would be this thread yet. ;)

I wasn't referring soley to the voting threads. The thread referenced in the announcements posted in several forums, https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51316 made no mention of the voting rules either. I wasn't laying blame or pointing fingers. I was just observing that it would have been expedient to add that information - especially in the thread that everyone who followed the other pointers would end up reading.

Tim would like to apologize. "A member emailed me an image on 12-28-04. Somehow i did not download this image to my computer but i did move it to a folder i created in Yahoo mail for the contest. Since it was entered before the 1-15-05 deadline, it will be entered to the contest".

Now that there are 81 entries the voting will be changed slightly. To accommodate the remaining 41 photos he has decided to continue to take the top three with the following format

One poll of 9 and four of 8. Any photo that is tied for third in ANY OF THE POLLS will also be moved on.

He would like to know if this bothers anyone. And of course feels extremely bad.

Meghan :)
