I know this is a bit off subject but since there is both mention and concern about theft of your gear I was just wondering if any one has purchased the pacsafe steal mesh bag as I have fears of leaving my gear unattended even if it is locked in the car. I am curious as to what you all think about this product as I am seriously considering buying one for everyday use as well as travel. Thanks in advance.

just looked it up, imo i dont think you would need something like this. because i would think in most cases of a bag gets stolen, its going to be a snatch and run type of thing. not someone cutting a hole in your bag and pulling a lens out without you knowing it. or atleast thats what i think the that would be what the extra security is to perform. also imo , i would never leave a bag like that visible in your car, i guess that should also depend where your from... but even something like a plastic bag from a store where you jus bought some toothpaste and toilet paper could be more then enough to stir some curiosity for them to smash your window.

For working out of, Domkes are outstanding. The PacSafe's moderately awkward to work with so that might lead you to not use it as much as you really would want to with unattended gear.

You can buy just about any messenger back and stick a Domke insert in it. That's what I did. Got my bag and insert for under $50 combined. Check amazon and ebay for messenger bags and then get the insert from Adorama. Just make sure that the insert will fit in the bag.
Here's my setup:

I love Lowepro's bags. I don't own this bag, but it comes highly recommended by Scott Kelby:

Most definitely not a bag to work out of when it's on your shoulder IMO.
Also way overpadded & square.

YMMV

You might check out the Think Tank Urban Disguise series. Because of the placement of the strap clips, it is a very nice bag to shoot out of.

Here are some pictures of my bag. I CAN fit my 70-200 2.8, 50 1.8, 17-50 2.8 attached to 20d body, and 85 1.8 in the main compartment with the insert. I have my flash, batteries, cf cards and other accessories in the other pockets. I usually don't pack this much in there though because I usually just use this bag on shoots; then I have the camera around my neck and a couple lenses in the bag along with extra batteries, etc. I have another backpack that I use when I want to carry a bunch of stuff.

I need to post new pics of my Target DIY bag with inserts now. I love it and holds exactly what I want how I want when no others wouldn't for $30.

The J803 is from Ace Digital for that price not Amazon. The 7MDH is WAY TOO big for needs right now and even adding those really. A 6MDH would work.

Domke's J802 would work as well and look into Nanue Pro's Sierra's inserts or just the bag.

Very snug. Sure it's from Target but you can find any type bag like that.

I actually bought the wrong insert so I had to cut some of it off but I fits better that way. I have 3 sides of the insert so one of the side pockets on my bag gives a little more for my 50 and Tok.

I've had 3 DIY bags and they all had their pros and cons, I just finally found the one I wanted to keep and spent less trying different ones than I did on the 7MDH alone.

I use the Crumpler ____ Million Dollar Home bags for shooting from the hip, if you will. Works fairly well as long as they're not stuffed to the gills (which I have a habit of doing).

Besides the already mentioned belt systems (which are great as far as speed and flexibility), you can check out some specialty type shoulder options such as the Boda Bag, LowePro Stealth Reporters and Think Tank Photo Urban Disguise bags.
