I would like to add a lens to my collection for the ring shot. My ring shots are bland and I need to add more umph! Let me know your fav lens for ring shots.
Thanks!

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here

I'm not sure about 85f1.2L for rings shots, because you need to be at least about 5 feet (1.4m) from the subject. This lens is a money maker lens for portraits, though. The 24-70L, and the 50L are my favorites. I use the 24-70 with out extension rings, and I use the 50L with a 12mm ext ring to make a nice macro shot, and then I use my ring light to make the photo pop! JIM

The 85 1.2L is NOT the lens you want for macro-type ring shots. Even the 50's (take your pick out of the three non-macros) are somewhat better because there's a shorter minimum focusing distance and the ring will fill more of the shot. Go for a macro lens or pick up a set of extension tubes for a less-expensive alternative! Jenne.

When I use it on my 1DS I will have to allow for a slight crop as I get a black shadow in two of the corners(the shutter maybe) but so far have only used it on crop bodies with great results and tiny DOF as it is a 1.8 lens,I really love the macro shots on this lens, breathe a little and your subject jumps out of focus.

I use the 70-200 F/4IS and get good results. The 85L is ,IMO,the best wedding / portrait lens going but I'm not sur it will get you tight enough on the ring set.
