the mk2 is nearly £300 more than a very good condition mk1

simple search and i found this thread:
https://photography-on-the.net …ghlight=16-35+differences

i have a really sharp copy of the mk1, and wont ever be upgrading to the mkii. 77mm filter vs 82mm and the mkii is supposed to be a lot sharper edge to edge. i went mk1 because well besides getting it for a great price from a good friend/pro photographer, (almost saved $700 from a mkii) it fits all my 77mm filters for my other "L" lenses

That depends on what you're using it for :) . I have the mkI (bought used) and use it for PJ work, events and landscapes. At 16mm theres a good amount of edge/corner distortion, but otherwise it's a great lens.
