Confusion over my Powershot Pro1 and wide angle lens

Hi everyone,
just recently got a new Powershot Pro1, which I love, but I bought a 3rd party wide angle titanium lens, which is 0.48x, and has the macro lens attached to it., and they gave me an adapter tube #B-52.

But something is not right. When I properly attach the lens on the adapter and then attach to the camera, there is a shadow on all four corners in the viewfinder, and I don't get a full frame image. Is this right???

The other strange thing is that the lens will not even attach to the adapter tube without having the macro lens attached to it first. is this right also???

I can't find any info on either the Canon site, or the net, to tell me what the proper setup is to use a wide angle lens with this camera. I hope someone can help!!

I wish I could help.
The reason I'm posting is to ask how you're liking the camera otherwise.

I was thinking of picking one up as a back-up cam.

I like the camera a lot. Fantastic quality, and great features. But I need to be able to use a wide angle lens, and need help with this!

the dark corners you see is vignetting.
A friend of mine has a pro1. I tried attaching the WA58 (which works perfectly well on my G3, no vignetting) to it with this plastic ring which comes with the cam and it worked though it gave also vignetting.
On the canon (external link) site, in the accessories list they don't list a wide-angle.
I guess you have to live with the vignetting...

I'm beginning to realize that this camera was not made for a wide angle lens at all, since I can find no lenses offered by Canon, anywhere. I think companies are just selling these aftermarket lenses that just kind of work with the camera, but it's really unusable, as I would have to crop about 30% of the image to get rid of these corners, which defeats the whole purpose.

Very disappointing, as that is the main way I like to shoot, because of the cool perspectives, etc.

If anyone can shed some more light on this subject, I would appreciate it!

Try shooting a little further out than full wide angle. zoom the lens until the vignetting disappears. It may or may not be wide enough.

he cannot zoom further out due to physical limitations. the lens barrel will jam itself into the WA filter, not a very good thing to do to the small USM mechanism.

I have a Pro1 and it has been very good. The only lens attachment is a telephoto, there is no wide-angle for the Pro1 like the G's have. The wide angle is built in so to speak. This is to me one of the strong points of the camera. Nothing to carry but a spare battery and CF card. As a backup/stealth/purse camera it can not be beat.
