Hi! :)
I have this picture of my niece that I really love - but because I'm still learning how to use my camera I really screwed up the picture :( I do have both raw and jpg file of this - I've tried lightening it and then it gets very noisy.... Can someone please help me and tell me what I should be doing? (besides taking it right the first time?) Of course I got a bunch of other ones that were nice and bright and in focus - of the back of her head! Isn't that the way it always works? Thank you! I really do appreciate your help!

i think any brightening would be to noisy to be worthy of keeping.

delete it.

Yeah... the first time you bring a RAW file back from the dead it's very exciting and novel, but you have to accept the fact that if you save it from that far gone, it's not going to be worth a whole lot.

i would work on your photo taking before your processing skills. start reading here and pick up 'understanding exposure.'

Unfortunately, everyone is pretty much right. This picture is pretty much too far past gone for you to fix to keep. The only way you MIGHT be able to get away with keeping it, would be to take it black and white or maybe sepia. Here are two examples. I brightened up the pic and then converted them. Not much better, but if you insist on keeping them, thats what i would do. if i had the original which isnt resized...i could have done more possibly.

Send me the raw file. I can probably get it to a usable image. See my PM for my email address.

To me even the quick edit that I did with all the unperfectness and noise - Its still a keeper. I know its not perfect - but why does every picture have to be perfect?

Like I said in my original post - I knew I screwed this one up - I just really really really loved her real smile and was hoping to salvage - even if was just a little. It was one of the 1st pics I took this afternoon and it was my own fault for getting it wrong - After I saw how dark it turned out I did get a lot of other good pictures quality/exposure wise - just not the expression I wanted. You cant have it all right all the time.

Thank you! I had thought of turning it to black and white but for some reason didn't think it would be ok - guess I was just thinking it would be too much black. I actually liked the way it looks in both b&w and the sepia so I will have to play around with the orig. and see what I can come up with. Thank you. I do appreciate your time!
