Can I calibrate an apple cinema display

Hi guys, I just bought an Apple Cinema Display, but I use a PC, and dont know if I can calibrate it because I only have option to change the brightness but not color, contrast, etc.

I read in the manual, and it says that I need to go to "APPLE>SYSTEM PREFERENCES, AND CLICK DISPLAYS" in order to adjust resolution, brightness, color, etc.......so If I have a PC do Im still able to change the settings or just the brightness from the monitor.?????

Barely. You're right, all you have is the brightness adjustment.

However, it can of course be profiled, and you'll get good results.

Do you have a monitor calibration device?

Yes, I have a Spyder2express Color Calibration System that I have never used, do Im still able to calibrate the CINEMA DISPLAY, even though I have a PC???

Yeah, the software that comes with the device should work on either platform. And the device doesn't care what kind of monitor it is.

Oh , I see, then after a year I will know use the SPYDER, because I only have 15 days to return merchandise from BH, and tomorrow is the deadline, and I cant edit photos with the current setting, lets see if I can calibrate it...

OMG!! I cant install the spyder2express, I have WINDOWS vista, dont know if that is the problem.....ARGHH!!! its says it can locate the device, and I already delete the ADOBE GAMMA,

can some one tell me if theres any other way to change the contrast, color, etc of this monitor on a PC????

well, i download the 64bit file for vista, and finally calibrated the monitor, but got too much red on the pics, if compare it with the prints....

And are you sure the prints are correct?

Are you using printer profiles. At least the ones that came with my, now old, Epson 2200, has pretty good profiles provided by Epson. You can always get your printer profiled for each type of paper you use.

I don't know if you have access to video adjustments on a system with on board video (on board being the video chip built into the motherboard) but on my computer I have a PNY video card with a Nvidia GeForce video chip (the same one apple uses) and the drivers that ship with it give you access to the RGB values and gamma so thats the way I set up my cinema display with the spyder and it's doing fine.

Hi!, 1Kerry, I'm having the same problem. I had bought an Apple Cinemaview 24" HD Display for my photo restoration. I have an Hp Pavillion pc and would like to know how did you adjusted the brightness on your Apple Cinema Display. My monitor is approximately one month old and I haven't calibrated it as yet. I do have the Spyder Pro 2 calibration device. I had figured that since the monitor is very new, I don't need do any kind of calibration. I would very much appreciate some information from you since we both have a pc connected to the apple displays.

Wrong.
Use the spyder.

You probably need to turn the brightness of the display down to at least half way from factory default.

Aim for 120Cd/m^2 or less. (IIRC, that's About EV 10 for the photographers among us )

Hi!, Rene' there are no brightness adjustment controls or knobs on my apple cinema view 24" Hd display. I had calibrated this monitor with the Spyder 2 and had used backlight. The problem is how can I adjust the brightness on this kind of display.

The slider is in the display control panel.
